looking for DAW suggestions

Hello,

I used Cakewalk and Cubase for years becos they simply worked and were intuitive. now Cakewalk seems dead &, Cubase Element does not save the preset I selected in a instrument(I tried everything)

I thought I would try to find something new, look for new horizons
so if anyone has some recomendations ?

I look for

- something that works, recognises my audio card, is able to record and play full duplex AND use my midi ports (sound obvious but I can guarantee, not all packages work instantly or at all)

- something intuitive (Ableton gets disqualified instantly, dont even get me started. I now suffer from PTSD using it)

- something that is VST compatible and that keeps all my settings when I save the project I work on

- something that records midi and plays it as I recorded it (same sound, same instrument/patch/whatever)

- something that works instantly, I am so sick and tired of wasting hours trying to figure technical issues... I want to make music

thanks

Cakewalk isn't dead; it's taken over by Bandstand.
You can download it for free.

There are a few free options out right now that are fully featured. Suggest downloading a couple of different ones and trying them out. See what fits your workflow.

already done that,
I am a bit tired of downloading/trying/working so far/why the hell is midi not working with this one/next

I like cakewalk, if only it saved the presets I use...

It's now called Cakewalk by BandLab (not BandStand).

It's essentially Sonar Platinum with numerous performance and stability fixes, and missing many of the add-on bundled synths and effects. It's free, not dead.

Open a BandLab account to get the BandLab Assistant, and download. Run. Smile.

Cubase 10 Pro is on 50% off normal price. It's even lower if you're upgrading or crossgrading.

Go full Cubase. If you're familiar with it and its on sale, it should put an end to your issues.

Bandlab Cakewalk is great. I was so happy to see that someone has updated and then made it free, a true pro DAW in my opinion. It does have bundled effects and instruments, just not the 3rd party ones that used to be with Sonar. I've got this and Digital Performer 10 and Cakewalk is so much easier for me to use, but I've been a cakewalk guy since it was only midi back in the 90's so I might be biased. Cakewalk + Miroslav Philharmonik 2 = pro film scoring on a rice & beans budget.
