passive/Z/Balanced....lost (questions about reamping)

In short this is what I'm trying to do, but need a little advice on whether I actually need a reamp box to accomplish the following scenario.

sounds from DAW --> Apogee Duet --> Great River ME-1NV mic preamp --> Apogee Duet --> DAW.

I'm convinced that if I hit my Great River ME-1NV mic preamp with some of my midi sounds, beats etc, even in mono or twice for stereo I'll be much happier with the tonal variety and coloration possibilities.

Will i actually need a re amp box for this? I'm not too sure I understand the technical side of it. I get it in theory of how I'd set it up, but don't want to create a loop or blow anything up.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Hey,

preamps expect a MIC level signal, which is MUCH lower than a line level signal.
If you send a line level signal into the preamp you might damage it.

cheers

you need line level to mic level adapter/attenuator. you can buy one or build one like this yourself:
