Corner Bass Traps

Hello All, First time posting on this forum and I hope I'm in the right forum. First off, I want to thank this forum as I've read a lot of posting on building corner bass traps. I am set and ready to start building my corner traps for my living/entertainment room. It will be the triangle stuffed corner style (no air gap). The material will be Roxul safe n sound. I have one last question before starting. Currenlty I have stereo cabinets in the front corners, should I move the cabinets out and build a floor to ceiling or can I get a way with leaving the cabinets where they are and build from the top of the cabinets to ceiling? I have attached a couple of pictures to show my area. Also on the 2nd picture, I have some question if adding bass traps to the corner of the cabinets will make any improvements?

I bought the roxul 16" size, when i measured it, it was more like 15.5" x 47.5" sheet, so the triangle will be cut to 15.5" x 15.5" x 21.9". Will the 21.9" face be sufficient?

Note-I have two svs pb12/plus two subs on each side of the room. I have not done any test. I've done lots of reading on bass traps and the concensus seems to be that adding bass traps will help bass problems in a room...so I'm just going to do it.

Thanks in advance.

Corners of a room, are usually not the best place for speakers, so I would move them away, and make corner traps floor to ceiling. You should probably ask at Gearslutz
"Studio building / acoustics" forum. There are a lot of specialists there, and I'm sure they will help you.

Corner Traps Installed

Okay, got the traps installed. I will remove that center piece of 1"x2" wood and use string instead as the wood is interfering with the cover frame.

Initial listening in stereo mode...not too impress. then switched to another DVD...bass sounds better on this one. I walked around the room and it wasn't bad. What I did notice was that it seems a little less bright in the highs. I wonder is the traps are also absorbing some of the highs reflection. Then my kids wanted to watch "my little pony" so I put it on for them in 7.1 channel mode (Denon AVR 3805) and watched it with them. Bass seems nice here too. I told my wife that it did improve...so this mess I'm making in our living room is not for nothing...she was like what ever...lol.

All this was done in about 4 hours. I have the cover frame build, but not yet wrapped. It will be with 100% polyester in black I got from the fabric store.

All in all, I'm not totally impress with it...but not to sad because it was only about $80 worth of material a little bit of my time...

MichalS...thanks for chiming in...do you know how I can move this post to the "Studio building / acoustics" forum"?

If the traps doesn't have reflective surface, they will absorb higs, and mids, if it bothers you, just add reflective material at the front, if it's thin it won't hurt bass absorption, it might actually enhance it.
