Slight Clipping/Distortion, but I don't SEE any sign

I'm mastering this project on the same project that I'm mixing.

I'm mastering a song with a lot of tracks. During the mastering process, I come across SLIGHT vocal distortion on the louder parts.

I check every track and I don't see the levels going even close to 0db. Even on the master/output fader.

When I remove the mastering chain, the distortion is gone.

The plugins in my mastering chain don't seem to be clipping either.

What could be the problem?

You can lower the volume on your vocal track.
Then you lower the threshold on your mastering limiter.

Vocal track should sound less than the rest of the track.
The drums should be the one peaking through your limiter.

limiters with fast attacks and releases (like brick wall limiters used for mastering) cause distortion.

If you want less distortion you need to do less limiting by either going for lower levels in mastering or going back and evening out dynamics more in your mix.

Why don't you try disabling all the plugs on your 2bus and then turning them on one at a time to find out which one is the culprit. What exactly do you have on the 2bus? Another thing you may want to check is to see if any of your individual track busses might be clipping. That has happened to me before.
