Bpm, halfstep question

So i made this dnb track at 174 bpm.
A remix comp said it had to be 'halfstep' around 87 bpm
How can i make it 87 bpm?
Thx

Well as your tune is 174 already. Half of that is 87.

Half step means exactly that: make it half the speed, so your pattern would span 2 bars instead of 1.

Say for example you programmed a 2 step beat. You would have your snares on beats 2 and 4. For a half step beat you would put those on beat 3 instead.

Think how dubstep is at around 140 but the beats feel slower [ie 70bpm] Apply that theory to dnb and you have half step.

Here's an example of a half step dnb tune

If i want to make my track 87 bpm, do i have to do it manually?

I'm not sure what you mean by manually.

You can either change the bpm to 87 or stay at 174 and re-program your patterns to span twice the length

you should be able to denote a section of the song in your DAW as having a different tempo, and set it to your desired bpm.

it will then switch to that tempo when that part of the song comes up

You can do that but "Half-step" in relation to DnB is a style not a tempo change.

OP: ill try and do some screen shots to help explain it
