How to program this 80's effect

How do you get this sound in the intro? Is it an LFO assigned to the amp? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I get a similar effect using the gate in Reason DAW; it's styled after the SSL channel strip. The gate has a side-chain input and also an expander mode, also the channel compressor is side-chained and that adds to the effect. I feed the side-chain from another track e.g. drum mahine or synth line (which acts as an oscillator).
Probably other techniques available: LFO or flexible tremolo.

I think it’s an 8th note delay.

It's a sixteenth note part. You can do it with a sequencer or using the arpeggio function. Personally, I just play the notes in steptime and then copy paste. The sound is a fifths bass thing. Pretty simple to get.
