Polarity invert or phase invert? What are the differences?

Please explain, what are the differences between polarity invert and phase invert?

Thank you!

A device which inverts the polarity of a signal will simply swap positive voltage to negative voltage and vice versa.

Phase is how far along the cycle of an audio waveform is. The measurement of phase is usiually in degrees. 360 degrees is one complete cycle. Phase will become noticeable when mixing together 2 wav forms.

Phase invert is also a switch found in the input sections of mixing consoles and mic pres. The term “phase invert” is actually a misnomer, since what the switch really does is invert the polarity of the signal in that input (correct usage would be “polarity invert”). Its used is to correct for balanced lines and mics that are wired backwards. In some cases toggling the phase invert switch can make a difference if any of the audio signals are out of phase, but doing so will also put that signal out of polarity with the other signals

CJ's explanation is excellent and easy to understand - no small accomplishment! I'd only add one aside.

If a signal is 180 degrees out of phase, the result is the same as a polarity reversal. But only if it is exactly 180 out of phase.
