Peak or volume/loudness?

Hey, when I set levels of the different instruments in my track do you think it is smarter to ignore the peak meter ? since I have noticed many samples I use peak the same but sounds lower or louder than eachother. Is this because the different companies slam them with processing to make them sound impressive like they do on presets etc?

Peaks don't say anything about loudness.
More about dynamics.
Level volume by ear, not meters.

Ok how do I deal with stuff peaking higher than others for example hihat peaking higher than kick? That will most likely clip the master later on

Adjust the track levels when mixing. Peak metering helps prevent distortion.

Then when mixing reduce everything OR use a limiter to reduce the peaks.

Enjoy!

There is more to mixing than levels alone. Experiment with EQ and compression to make your tracks sit and play nicely with each other.
