sE Electronics X1 Not Picking Up Sound

I have an sE Electronics X1 microphone and can't get it to pick up any sound. My computer is recognizing the device as a generic USB audio device, and I can't record any audio with it and it isn't registering any sound when I try to test the levels in the sound window on my PC. I've tried using different XLR cables, USB ports, and DAWs and it still won't work. My setup is: sE X1> XLR > USB. Does anyone have any insight?

Do you have Phantom Power (48V) engaged on whatever you are using to convert the XLR to USB?

If it still doesn't work with 48v engaged, Check your input/output in the track. Or post a screenshot.

What are you using for a 'USB' device? The device between the XLR cable and the computer (also known as the interface).

No I don't, I don't actually have a phantom power supply for this microphone. Thank you for the insight - I wasn't aware I needed this. Are there any other components I might be missing other than the mic itself, phantom power supply, and XLR>USB cable?

Are you using a cable that looks like the image below? If so don't bother with a phantom power supply. Get a USB interface which will have phantom power built in.

This will work if you're on a tight budget.......

Mike,

Yes, that's the cable I'm using. Thank you for the recommendation.
