Question Apogee Element - how to set up optical output to mono ?

Hello Musicians,

I am using my microphone -> Apogee Element 24 as pre-amp ----- optical output -> SONY PCM D100 for handy recording.

I switch the ANALOG-IN - OPTICAL OUT switch ON in the Apogee Control.

Then it is working and mic channel 1 is going to the left optical output. Then I hear the microphone on the left side on my headphones, which I don't like. I would like to have it in the centre or on both channels.

I have found no way to let the PCMD100 record only a mono file.

So how can I switch the optical output of the Apogee to Mono or let the Apogee send the signal of it's internal mixer with its optical output ?

Thank you
Barro

ANALOG-IN - OPTICAL OUT Sends input 1 to ADAT channel 1 and so on. It bypasses any mixing functions as far as I know. Since you have to connect the Element to a computer to control it why not just record direct to the computer? Anything else seems overly complicated.
