I'm about to start tracking bass for my punk band which will likely be sent off to be re-amped. I'm not entirely sure what my signal path should be for the gear I have at my disposal. Help?
Here's what I have:
Presonus 1818VSL 8 Channel USB Audio Interface
Radial Pro DI Passive Direct Box
Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver
Fender American P Bass
Run through a Furman power conditioner. Monitored via Audio Technica M-50's & KRK Rokits.
Depends on the sound the track needs and what your tracking to. I would say Bass> Radial>split direct out to instrument input of interface and balanced out to mic input of interface. Record two separate tracks, untreated and let reamper decide which track sounds best.
I'd do it like this. The clean DI is for re-amping, the Sansamp is to get a semi-decent vibe when you're playing. To that end, you can always send the "thru" to a cranked amp instead.
