Mixcube summing to mono cable or just use mono switch?

Hi guys, noob question regarding monitoring on the Avantone Mixcube.

I want my second pair of monitors to be a single Mixcube to use in mono.

My interface (Audient id22) has a switch to change the speaker set I'm using, and another switch to put the signal into mono. Is it ok to use the 'mono' switch every time I change to the Mixcube, or am I better off somehow using a stereo->mono summing cable (thus eliminating the need to use the 'mono' button).

Do these two methods result in the same mono signal?

The short answer is "yes."

You can definitely get away with just hitting the mono switch. It's doing the same thing that a mono cable will do. That being said, you may find you want a cable that sums as you're going back and forth and I suspect you'll only have L or R hooked up to the mix cube, so you're going to wind up thinking you're in Mono, but listening to R because you forgot to hit the mono button when you switched.
