Roland RD-88

Didn’t see a thread on this yet.
Color me interested.
Very.

Still, wondering how much this would differ from the Roland FP-60, at approximately the same price point and donning the same keybed.

I'm impressed and this will probably be my next keyboard. I was surprised that Korg didn't introduce a new Kronos or Krome.

This looks like a great lightweight option to replace my old RD300-GX. I have a feeling I’ll be getting this one

I played it yesterday at NAMM and feel it's the nicest Roland DP since the FP7. The action is definitely a step up from what they used to offer in this segment. However, its height is of some concern to me, it might not be ideal for two-tier duty.

But why-oh-why has this professional keyboard an external power adapter?

They just announced the SV-2. Seems like a direct competitor, no?

Par for the course in this price segment. It’s about certification. Internal PSU needs to be certified by regulatory bodies of each territory where it is sold. That takes time and it’s costly. Off the shelf wall warts are already certified by their manufacturers.

I have never been a fan of the aesthetics of the SV. Hurts the eyes.

Because it's professional and needs power. And you only need an adapter worldwide.

And maybe ‘cause it allows for a smaller board.

So, that $1200 RD-88 gets 3000+ Zen Core sounds ...

Couple things I like over the Fp30:
1. Actual outputs other than the headphones out.
2. Looks like it is easier to select layers of sounds.

It appears the action may be better as well - thought the FP30 is not that bad.

Is it as lightweight as the FP30? (It appears to not have speakers which should help somewhat with the weight issue.)

And it appears to have more sounds, which is always a plus.

I look forward to hearing more about features and comparisons - Also availability.

Same action, at least in name, as in FP-10, FP-30 and FP-60: PHA-4 Standard.
Speakers: tweeters on top, woofers underneath.

Could it be that Zen Core mainly contains all Axial packs, like those that can be added to the FA synths?
