Reason Studios announced today that Reason 11 is now available

Propellerhead Becomes Reason Studios & Unveils Reason 11 as a Plugin

Reason Rack Plugin sets the stage for a new Reason era

STOCKHOLM, August 26, 2019 – Today Propellerhead Software becomes Reason Studios and announces a major update to its flagship music-making software, Reason. Enabling music makers of all major digital audio workstations to plug the Reason Rack into their sessions, Reason 11 includes the Reason Rack Plugin, on top of a number of updates to its standalone music making software.
“The rack of devices has always been the core of Reason. Now with Reason 11, anyone can easily add the Reason Rack Plugin to their favorite DAW,” said Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Propellerhead Product Manager. “With the addition of 6 new devices, the Reason Rack is bigger than ever, so that you can make music the way you want. We've, of course, improved Reason as a DAW too, adding some of the most requested workflow features like improved sequencing and editing.”

Bring your favorite Reason devices into any DAW with the Reason Rack Plugin (VST/AU*). Or, sequence faster than ever with razor-sharp focus. Edit, draw, crossfade, curve and zoom – building your tracks in no time. Craft and polish your sound with new innovative modulation effects and a trio of devices pulled from Reason’s million-dollar mixing console.

“We’re changing our name to Reason Studios to clearly express our dedication in delivering the best experience for all music makers, regardless of where they are in their creative journeys,” said Timothy Self, Chief Product Officer. “The world really knows us for Reason. Reason Studios encapsulates our mission of building a platform for all music creators. Reason 11, with its seamless integration into other music production software, truly exemplifies how we want to open up to the world.”

Over the coming weeks, Propellerhead will change to Reason Studios wherever Propellerhead shows up, including its website and social media sites. Visit Reason Studio's blog for further details.

Wow! What an awesome time to be making music. I compose all my material in Reason and then export for mixing in Reaper. Cumbersome workflow (rewire was not an efficient solution). The FX / Synths / Automation (ease of use) / Routing in Reason has always been my favorite creative environment. Now to have all that inside Reaper (or any DAW) is a total game changer for me. Well done.

Wooooooooooow Now this is great news. Having The famous RACK modules of Reason inside as a VST/AAX etc.. this is an amazing step and forward thinking from Propeller.

This will make me bring back Reason in my production for sure.

I’ve not upgraded Reason since version 5, I loved version 2.5 but by version 5 it just all got a bit too messy for me however I will be upgrading to 11 to have that rack in my DAW

Only VST initially, AU 'in the pipeline' Logic users.

I think the upgrade price from 10 is a bit steep, will have to think about it, the upgrade costs more than the entry level version which does almost all I need.

For users of other DAW's this is great news. Reason's rack is a fantastic modular system and the plugin will obviously be a huge step up in workflow over ReWire for when you just want to quickly get some Reason mojo into a project. It also adds some much needed competition to the other modular plugin VST's like Komplete.

For Reason users that use it as a DAW though this is a little bittersweet. It's going back towards the roots a little, but the update is once again extremely thin on much requested workflow improvements, even thinner on new RE's and the push to make Reason into the next Kontakt as a means to solving it's workflow by using other DAW's feels like they're giving up on Reason as it's own DAW. On purely initial gander then if it's taken as a response to the requests for improved workflow then that seems quite arrogant to ask users to buy another DAW as the solution. It also makes you wonder how proactive they'll be about updating the core DAW in the future to respond to those requests.

I am sure though that it will be a success, especially at bringing in new customers. And who knows, maybe to do this they laid the groundwork to bring Reason in full onto mobile platforms in the future which would be very nice.

Interesting. I was always curious about the ssl emulation in reason. Does this mean we can now use Reasons Ssl emulation as a plugin?

Does anyone know if you'll be able to load old Reason projects inside the vst or if it'll be just the Rack with it's modules?

I should think it will just be the rack.

I am jumping between Cubase and Reason 10 a lot due to my use of audio to cv for controlling a load of analog synths so this might possibly make my job easier....

Why possibly? Because Cubase has the most silly way of making a group of 4 outputs to link to a vsti that needs 4 outputs ....groups, child busses etc.....pain in in the butt. Butte other main issue is that Reason 10 is really stable and Cubase is a crash crash fest when using the same vsti’s loaded into Reason.

Maybe running Reason 11 as a vsti will add stability to certain plugs that crash in Cubase

Interesting...buy a whole DAW but just use the rack plugin. I guess selling the rack alone would cannibalize sales. I'll wait for December to make any decision in any event as I need AU, can't use VST3. I noticed the $99 Intro version will also include the rack, but loses 4 instruments (out of 15) and 20 of the effects which is more of a limitation.

Having the same versions (lite, normal, suite) but just for the rack vst at about half the price would be great. I have v10 just for some old stuff but I've moved to Cubase years ago and don't really need another whole DAW, just some specific Reason instruments and tools in Cubase.

How so? It's been confirmed that the Reason Rack VST plugin and the VSTi version will not work as a plugin host. You will not be able to open up VST plugins within the Reason Rack plugin itself.

It's also been confirmed that the Reason Rack Plugin does not output any MIDI which unfortunately means you can not use all those cool midi devices within Reason to control your other VSTi plugins.

I was so excited for all those things you have mentioned. Now I understand it is just like having Reason 1.0

I will pass. It doesn't bring anything to my workflow.

Keep in mind that Propellerheads.. erm Reason Studios are open to suggestions and the rep over at KvRaudio has apparently already forwarded the midi output idea to the developers. Still, it's a bit surprising they didn't include this from the start as it's such an obvious feature as Reason has tons of great midi manipulator devices.
