Yeah, sorry about the spelling, but that's what I meant to say anyways, that it wasn't referring to "mother", but that it was just being polite.

I totally agree. The Phantom Menace review is awesome.

The Prometheus review, while funny, wasn't near as profound or "accurate".....

The full review seemed to be fairly positive and I get the impression the short one was mainly taking the piss out of the millions of online nitpicking nerds.

If your audience is movie and sci fi geeks you need to have your **** correct or don't bother coming to the party. But anyway as recent history has shown quality is not the best way to make a profit which is after all the only thing that really matters to hollywood.

Yes.

The world has changed and moved on since the times when it used to be more difficult for low quality output and the less talented to gain a foothold in the market.

Likewise, Hollywood has finetuned its formulas to cater to the whimsical tastes of the increasingly dumbed down audiences. It's a death spiral of art imitating life imitating art.

Ridley's last decent film was Thelma & Louise back in 1991. Pretty much everything subsequent to that has been either poor, average or hyped. (Cue the vengeful cries of dismay from the Gladiator loving drones).

In terms of artistry he's past his sell-by date and has been past it for decades. In terms of commercial success he is of course still a winner today.

I just saw Prometheus, very nice octopus. With vinegar, oregano, lemon and olive oil.
I spent my 12 euros to buy this DVD. What a mistake.
I forgot the music, is .................................... .
What a pity, why they dont send some money of the incomes to the orphan kids, to the amnesty or to Unisef.

Horses for courses.....I thought it was a dreary, awful "score." Would much have preferred almost anything...

Between the score and Harrison Ford trying to do narration, it just ruined the film for me. I did like the "OFFWORLD" blimp though. All archive drives are now called "OFFWORLD" around here now

I think he'll use Daniel Pemberton.

He score Scott's last film and Daniel is a huge Vangelis fan. He also owns a CS80!

Agreed, that particular soundtrack was not just a musical part of the film but also visual.

Not only was it one of Vangelis best soundtracks, it was one of his best recordings, period.

Now that Vangelis is 72, perhaps the question is, does he still want to do any soundtracks.

How long since his last one?

Blade Runner was released in 1982....

One of my favorite movie/soundtrack combos of all time. I do hope they do this justice. My hopes are high, but I'm not sure. Bladerunner drew a new line in the sand not only for the style and content, but the soundtrack took you somewhere no one had before. I loved it so much I went to a Friday midnight screening in the East Village countless times in the mid 80's and recorded it with my walkman. The original soundtrack was not available until the early 90's due to some legal nonsense I believe.

Anyway I hope they make a great movie and I really hope Vangelis scores it.

begging your pardon? ... Daft Punk worked very hard on that score!! It's most certainly not a JT score with DP additions.... at all!! The only thing wrong with it is that the recording of the orchestral elements was rushed and so a little scrappy at time.

More on topic - as much as I love Bladerunner and about 80% of the score there are parts of it that are just cheesy (for me folks, for me !!! just an opinion). The whole romance sax parts for example... never liked them back in the 80's and like them even less now!!

Those sax parts weirdly work so well I think, if they were in any other film they'd have stood out as incredibly cheesy however.

The score is a bit cheesy, but I really can't imagine anything else being in there. I think the score gave the film a dream like feel. It's one of those films that was probably not supposed to turn out like it did and it just worked very well. It's so visually beautifully that I think people may overlook its flaws.

The score has definitely aged better than a lot of non-orchestral scores from that era.

I'm not expecting anything good from the sequel (hopefully it's great obviously!). I'm not precious about remakes/sequels but after a double bill at home one night of Total Recall & Robocop (the reboots) when the girlfriend was away I'm scarred for life.

From my experience, most sequels suck

Anyways.. when is the Blade Runner Sequel expected to be out ? 2020 ? or later ?

Well, If it does eventually materialize, then my first choice for a composer would be Vangelis

If he does not get commissioned to score the sequel, then I wish who ever gets it all the best, since it will always be compared to the original score, which is quite hard to beat given the impact it has had on the entire Scifi-Synth based film score genre, and it is an all time classic.

Cheers,

Just a thought.
