It was. Came across as a bitter alcoholic rather than loaded power house.

It's an example for people who say NEVER TO GIVE UP WRITERS SHARE!!!

What about $1000 for 50% writers share?
$250 for 50% writers share?

London and Hollywood are LITTERED with composers who think giving up writers share is terrible, horrible, totally against their principles...until 6 months later when they give up their writers share because the project was "too good to pass up"...

Never, ever, ever give up writer’s share. SELL it!

I think there are deals that can be beneficial. The agent who takes 10% really gave me some of my first work in this biz and they’ve been expanding ever since I started working with them. The work has never really stopped and is my bread and butter.

I think if I said no to that deal, I wouldn’t be where I am or made the connections I have today.

However, to OP, I would simply avoid any publishers taking huge chunks of your writers share. Its not worth it - you’ll have to work twice as hard.

There is a threshold at which everyone would give away some of their writers share to get a deal done. Everyone's threshold is different but we all have one.

Exactly. Place everything in context. Take the measured risk based on what's on offer.
