Map Room: Dawn full mockup (John Williams)

Here is my attempt at a full mockup of John Williams' epic track from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

What is the point of such an exercise? I am intrigued.

I would imagine that it would be a great way to learn how to compose/arrange in this style? If nothing else how to get your head around all of the VI's and articulations. I don't do this type of music at all, but I expect if I took the time to figure out how to get it sounding this close I'd learn a hell of a lot.

Also... and I know this sounds crazy... but I heard some people like to do this sort of thing for FUN!

Sounds pretty good to me!

You have some low string volume issues in the first 30 seconds where they cut off a little too abruptly, but other than that, this sounds very good!

Great job. Did you have the score or did it by ear. Either way, while I don't really see the point in mockups of other peoples works, this is a great sounding effort, so well done.

Thanks, I didn't have a full score. Some parts are by ear, and for some I used a reduced score that had instruments listed but no separated parts.

The point of doing that is to learn orchestration, tune the daw template, and to hone the skills in producing something like that against a good sounding acoustic version that already exists.

Great dynamics, everything sounds very balanced and alive. Surprised other composers don’t understand the value in doing this.
