Record guitar from DAW into film editing software?

Basically want to make YouTube videos where I talk about guitar as I'm playing. Because you know, that's never been done before.

Trying to figure out the easiest way to do this. Right now I fire up iMovie with the audio settings set to my Motu 828 mkii. Along with a few pedals, I hit the record live and go. I use Logic X and have one of the amp plugins going in the background, but iMovie doesn't record that; it records my guitar and pedals as if they are plugged in direct...that flat direct box sound that I don't like here.

Wondering if anyone else has done this and what kind of setups and procedures they use? Thanks.

I record all my goofy vids on my Samsung Phone, and simultaneously record "live" into logic. I do a handclap "synch pop" manually, before "keeper" takes... Then I import the raw phone vid into iMovie, edit it in there, export it (from iMovie as a ".mov"), then import THAT into Logic and synch up the audio (aligning the handclap or other transient, from the ALSO imported phone audio, and the "high quality" audio take in Logic; I obviously then mute the phone audio). It's actually easy as hell. Takes longer to type than to actually do.

Here's one (couple years ago), for instance:
