audio and vst instrument tracks: first VTM, than VMR (VCC, EQ / COMP)..
group / aux: first eq / comp or whatever and last VMR (VCC)
fx: first reverb / delay..etc and last VMR (VCC)
master buss: VMR (VCC, EQ if desired.. ) and VTM last

This is how I do it:

Audio/Instrument: VUMT-VTM-VMR(VCC-EQ-COMP)
FX: VMR(VCC)-High Pass/Low Pass filters-Reverb
Stereo Output: VMR(VCC MixBuss)-VBC-VTM

What is a VUMT? For FX you put plugs first than reverbs/delys on the end?
And what do you do with groups / aux?

VUMT

Yes, for FX I put first. I would do the same with groups/aux.

Why? Wouldn't it come last on fx returns and groups, as the effect unit would be returned to the console?

I always like to refer people to this video series for questions on emulating the analog recording/mixing chain:

You can change the VU meter calibration with the screw that's right underneath the meter window.
Is that a Global setting, or for each instance of the plugin?

If the latter, we better save us some default settings, I guess.

PS. I use 0dBVU rms (= +4dBu = 1.23V) = -18dBFS for my signal chain end to end.

I know the VTM has a Global calibration setting/option.

I calibrate VTM, VCC 1.0 and Satson with a 1k sine wave at -18 and with the Vcc 2.0 I have to set the calibration screw to -21 in order for it to read -18 with a 1k sine wave. Anyone know why that is?

Hey Guys, the SSL 4000 that CLA uses has some aux buss? Watching the videos that Doom recommended, I saw that he sends the guitars for a buss and uses the VCC in the tracks and buss, this is not something common with SSL, is it?

How are you using Satson with these? As a VU meter only, or with its processing?

Do you put VCC and VTM on every track and every submix? Or just VCC everywhere and the VTM on key places? I'm just getting into the world of Slate.

I put VCC on every track and I try to use VTM as much as possible on individual tracks too. But sometimes I do not use VTM on individual tracks, depending of the material. It is always on the mixbuss though.

As the first insert I use it for metering, hp/lp filters, and processing.

We need a Global calibration setting option for VCC 2.0.

Again, I can't modify the original post so here are some addendums:

Custom Series EQ: A combination of the best attributes of over a dozen different analog equalizers. A Q (bandwidth) control is not offered. If you can't get a good sound out of this equalizer you should retire.

Custom Series Lift: Parallel processed boost-only shelving filters with an analog modeled output stage.

Does anyone know if the FG-S is a black or brown knob emulation? Perhaps a combination of both? The high pass filter appears to operate at 18/dB per octave which is what the black knobs are.

1. Will the FG-X 2.0 be less CPU-intensive? The current version hits even a high-end CPU very hard.

2. Will the FG-X 2.0 be released this year?

What eqs does the Custom Series EQ model?

What products inspired the FG-Bomber?

The list might benefit of other updates too
