Macbook Pro (Haswell) and PT 11

Hello,

I'm looking to update my antiquated (though well loved) old Macbook.

I'll be recording and producing projects with approx. 20-40 tracks. I know, of course, performance depends on plug-in counts/type, etc., but what do you think of the following spec?

2.6ghz Dual i5 (Haswell)
16GB 1600mhz ram
256 SSD HD

Should this run PT 11 smoothly, considering my requirements?

Thanks

What plugins are you using ?

Well, I've taken a break from production, so will need to get back up to date on plug-ins (also, I'm used to Logic's plug-ins, but will be working with PT for the foreseeable future). It's likely I'll just be using typical EQ's, compressors, reverbs, etc. (Waves, Softube, Flux, etc.). I'll also be incorporating some outboard.

I'm unsure as to whether I should opt for the dual i7 in place of the i5... It's a significant jump in price for the extra CPU...

The thing is when using Pro Tools 11 ... when you are running an i5 you will be using only 4 cores whereas an i7 could provide you with 8 cores

Yes, but the question is whether PT uses all the cores available. The benchmarks are always much better with higher core counts, but my experience has been that the real world performance is often not improved so much, with cores lying idle.

Thanks for your feedback. Presumably, you are referring to desktop computers (re. 4/8 cores)?

As far as I am aware, the new MacBook Pro is either dual i5 or quad i7...

Compare the model you're interested in with the quad i7 MBP
