Here for the gear

I'd like to say hello to the entire gearslutz community. This is my first post.

Can anyone tell me if Cubase Studio 4 will work with Mavericks?

Mavericks exclusively uses a 64 bit kernel so I doubt PT10 will ever be supported. (based on DP releases I ran)

UPDATE: It appears that you can still run apps in 32 bit mode just like in ML. My bad.

Not very savvy with this type of stuff but can someone explain to me why and how Mavericks (Once avid has supported it) will be better for audio?

I'm still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Logic Studio 9

Right now my system is quite stable, so upgrading is a bit scary.

MBP Quad 2.2 GHz i7 8GB RAM

Anyone with the same rig?

Avid Knowledge Base
Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) support for Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius

Last Updated : October 22, 2013
Products Affected : Media_Composer, Pro_Tools_1_6, Pro_Tools_HD, Sibelius

With the announcement of Apple's Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks operating system there are known issues with Media Composer 7 and earlier, Pro Tools 11 and earlier and Sibelius 7 and earlier. Avid will announce support for Mac OS X 10.9 with future releases of Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius.

It is not recommended to use Media Composer, Pro Tools or Sibelius with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) as they are not supported at this time.

See below for known issues.

Pro Tools:
The uninstaller for Pro Tools 10.3.7 and earlier will not work on Mac OS X 10.9. For this reason Avid does not recommend using Pro Tools 10.3.7 or earlier with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). PTSW-185438.

Increased -6101 errors with Pro Tools 11.0.2 and earlier using Built-In sound output on Mac OS X 10.9. Pro Tools 11.0.x may encounter AAE error 6101 and Pro Tools 10.3.7 and earlier may encounter DAE error 6101 when using the built in sound output on the Mac with OS X 10.9. This occurs with high frequency at HW Buffer sizes: 32, 64 and 128. It occurs with lower frequency at HW Buffer sizes: 256, 512 and 1024. This occurs with Error Suppression enable and disabled in the Playback Engine. The error message is, "A CPU overload error occurred." PTSW-186179.

The Pro Tools HD driver and Nitris DX and Mojo DX driver un-installers won't work on Mac OS X 10.9. It is not possible to un-install the Pro Tools HD drivers, Nitris DX drivers or Mojo DX drivers on Mac OS X 10.9. An update to these drivers will be provided that will be "signed" for installation and will allow the drivers to be un-installed. PTSW-187157.

Nitris DX and Mojo DX drivers are not "signed" for Mac OS X 10.9. After rebooting the computer with a DX peripheral attached, an alert dialog is seen informing that the Kernel extension is not from an identified developer. After dismissing the dialog the DX peripheral should be able to function. UME-924.

Inability to use Venue Link with S3L and AVB with Mac OS X 10.9. Selecting Avid AVB64 will result in error, "There are currently no interfaces in I/O Setup known to be connected to VENUE". There are no work arounds to this issue. Sessions will not be created with Avid AVB64 as the peripheral. PTSW-185903.

Avid AVB device appears multiple times in the Network Device selection on Mac OS X 10. Within the Mac's Audio MIDI Setup's Network Device window the following Avid AVB devices are listed when an SL3 system is present: "Avid AVB64", "AVB64", "Stage16" and "S3Mix". Only the "Avid AVB64" should be selectable. The "AVB64" refers to the "E3Engine64". PTSW-186310.

The Eleven Rack, 003, Digi 002, Mbox (3rd Gen), Fast Track models and Mobile Pre driver un-installers won't work on Mac OS X 10.9. It is not possible to un-install the drivers for the following: Eleven Rack, 003 Console, 003 Rack, Digi 002 Console, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox 3 Pro, Mbox 3, Mbox 3 Mini, Fast Track C600 & C400, Fast Track Ultra 8R & Ultra, Fast Track Pro & MKII and Mobile Pre MKII.

Maverick is suppose to help with the pops and clicks that happen using Apogee Ensemble.

Any reports?

Logic 9 works ok however I found on large sessions with gfx heavy plugins like analyzers in the built in EQ or slate trigger the interface becomes unresponsive to input for long periods of time. Little frustrating other than that it seems ok and pretty snappy overall.

Logic X, Cubase 7.05, PT 10 are all working just fine as are all my sample libraries & 3rd party plugins.

I still use Soundtrack Pro as my preferred editor and I'm worried the Upgrade could kill it.

I spent so many years and crazy money struggling to finally get a seamless working system, so I'm really reluctant to become a crash test dummy again.

Be warned it's a really long install process
My newest Macbook Pro took exactly an hour from start to finish
It's been years since a version of OS X took that long for me!

How big is the actual file ?

If I upgrade, I think its safest to do it at the store so my Logic trainer can
verify everything is working right.

I really can't afford to lose Soundtrack Pro and that already happened once with
a flawed update a few years ago.

Two big questions likely worthy of their own threads.

1. What audio/video related apps that work in 10.8.5 won't work in Mavericks?
2. How well does boot camp work and/or does it still exist in Mavericks?
