Dealing with CPU issues in Ableton Live.

Performing with CPU issues in Ableton Live.

Hi.

Im in the process of moving my logic songs over to Ableton Live for performing.

Im use a lot of Arturia synths such as the miniV, Jupiter, Wurlitzer etc as well as Kontakt5 for sample playback/looping.

I am finding that my CPU in Ableton is hovering at 20-25% when not playing anything and with 8 tracks of audio and 1 synth playing a chord it peaks up to 50-60%.

Im on a MacBook Pro DualCore 2.66GHz with 4GB of RAM.

Is there anything i can do at all with the synths or RAM to bring the CPU down.

Im only on the first track, i have many more synths and FX to add in and im already running into problems.

Any advice from fellow performers/geeks?

Cheers!

Its not possible as its for performance as I've mentioned in my original post.

Need more info about your system, exactly what model mac, OSX version, amount of free space on system drive, free space on project drive?

Best bet is to run at 64 bit so you can make use of maximum RAM.

It takes time to load a Kontakt instrument, having them preloaded into RAM will be a priority in a live situation.

I have both apps from my experience Logic can handle more virtual instruments than Live, but it's not designed for live performance.

MacBook Pro late 2010, 15"

2 core 2.66GHz i7 processor, 512GB SSD Hard Drive (78GB free), 4GB DDR3 RAM.

OSX 10.8.5, Ableton 9.0.6

Its really only the Arturia synths that set the CPU off like crazy, i havent currently got any Kontakt instruments in my set but i will need a lot for my other songs.

What will extra RAM to do help with the Arturia synths spiking the CPU and just in general?

First of all ignore the live CPU gauge.

What is the OS CPU gauge showing?

Most Arturia stuff Ive demod has been a ridiculous resource hog - Ive been tempted to get the suite many times but so glad I didn't. My main controller is an Arturia Labratory 49. The KB itself is excellent but the bundled can run one maybe 2 instances before bringing Ableton to its knees. Ive got a pretty similar setup i7 2001 15"MBP, 500gb SSD, 8gb RAM. I think arturias SW is fairly rubbish as its essentially unusable

With live just open the Mac CPU floats at around 50% and then when i play just 3 synths, but with no other audio running at all it spikes up to and around 125%.

Ive attached screenshots here Files.zip

ok right click, freeze track, copy frozen clips to an audio track.

Might be worth checking your settings in preferences, I can't play above 44.1k on my mac. Probably need to get a new one.

edit: There is more detail here https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=161336

- freezing
- spreading plugins and devices over more tracks
- increase buffer size

There are no magic settings.
Load is higher when you have 10 plugz on one track than 5 on 2,
thats the way live works.

As ive been saying i cant freeze!

Im performing with these instruments.

Is there an app which can sample each note at different velocities and create a less CPU intensive sampler instrument?

Ah sorry I thought you meant you where playing clips live, and improvising over the top.
