in a music score how many levels of dynamics are ever noted in written music such s classical music - maybe 20 maximum, from fffff to ppppp. Probably no more than 10 levels of dynamics..!in written music...
I think this whole argument about the number of levels of MIDI is irrelevant. I submit that to recreate a musical score you do not need more than 20 or 30 levels of dynamics, and MIDI already provides many more..
If one could evenly sample 20 to 30 dynamic layers on a samples piano, that should be far more than enough.
We need to separate conjecture from the truth. a music score does not need anywhere near 127 levels of dynamics...and cannot represent anywhere near that many levels or else no one would be able to play it accurately.
The more levels of velocity samples, the more realistic the sound (a piano is infinite), regardless of how many levels of acoustic "volume" (f/p) a composition requires. Unless you are saying something I am not understanding?
I have the original White Grand which I bought more than 10 years ago now. Have you had the opportunity to test it against more modern well regarded samples? How would you say it stands these days amongst the leaders?

I’ve tried most if not all the grands and White is still my favorite. I now have the White Grand MK II which is nice since you can blend the 2 Mics and pedal release sounds as well as key release noise etc.
