I hope you enjoy and didn't buy it for the preamps! It's a controller like any other, nothing much special... uses the Mackie protocol.

A friend of mine has one in his mixing suite. I've spent some time with it.

Nope we have API and a whole console Dan Kennedy modded. I bought this for the workflow. Im not going to use its monitoring either.

So I have had it for a few days and have had the chance to use it. Faders are a little on the cheap side a far as the caps go. I wish they were more like real ssl fader tops all nice and metal. Also pan and plugins do not seem to be flippable. That's a bummer.

Also. It is very hot.

I have had my Nucleus for about 4 months now. I love it. mine gets warm, but not that hot and frankly I like the mic pres. it really is great for my workflow.

I think that thing looks really cool. I just don't get the price. It's an MCU with two SSL mic amps and a monitoring section. Unless the monitoring section rivals something like an Avocet I don't get why it's so much and to hear build quality complaints of any sort is really troubling.

Well I'm on Mac so asio doesn't effect me. I do believe it was worth it. I weighed my options heavily. I don't plan on using the monitoring section often at all. I have metric halo and a Coleman for that. I wanted fader. I got faders. I just wish I could flip the god damn pan. Any ideas?

The amps are outstanding. Clean, but that's SSL.

The problem I had with the test-drive I got was the somewhat flaky USB audio card. It got on it's knees much faster than my RME FF800.
Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to try it out with the FF800 hooked to the Nucleus.
Yes it's Mackie protocol, but the faders made it feel very much console-like. Much more than any MCU I ever worked with.
Congrats on the purchase!

what do you mean by "flip the pan"?

RE the FF800: I use a FF800 with the Nucleus and it's great. I tried to use the Nucleus sound card but it never worked properly for me and the SPDIF function is a mess. that's detailed here in another thread. [sigh]

regardless I love mixing on it.

and BTW it totally blows the Mackie controllers out of the water. I had an MCU and 3 expanders and I like this much better!

How is the FF connected? Not spdif then I guess?

I run the 2 SSL pre's in via 2 of the spare channels on my 428. the SPDIF implementation has real issues. not worth messing with IMNSHO.

It ought to for three times the price per 16 faders. I just got an MCU with the newer Alps faders and was VERY pleasantly surprised by the build quality and functionality. Was strongly considering the Nucleus and glad I didn't spend the cash, given the lukewarm opinions from users.

By flip the pans I mean use the fader to write pan automation. Also how do you get the nucleus soft buttons to open specific plugins?

I've had mine for nearly a year. I love the enhanced workflow it gave me, the pre-amps, and I use it for the clean monitoring section too.

I'm kind of bummed that the Monitor Knob started getting scratchy though. It's now been sent for repairs to SSL, should have it back in a few days I hope.

I haven't heard the super analogue section. I have set up an aggregate io that includes the ssl and was able to get sound to it. I'm just wondering if I can run analog straight into it.

So I'm using it to record for the first time. I set it up as an aggregate with my metric halo and I got lots of jitter. I don't know exactly how to clock it since there is no word clock. I ended up running its pre out in the MH. The pre sounds great.

I have a Metric Halo and was thinking of adding a Nucleus. Bummer that for 4,000€ they can`t get SPDIF right. Even M-Audio can make that happen for cry in out loud.

My idea was go 4 channels using the SPDIF to the ULN-2. This is awful news

I have not tested the spdif. I only tested the USB. I don't have an adaptor cable and my optical is used for Adat. I do not know if the spdif works well or not.
