I don't do this much, being more a real music from real musicians in real time kinda guy... but the plug included with Samplitude works pretty well. I suspect that how far you can warp anything without hearing artifacts would depend upon the content, and what is mixed with it afterwards.

I just read this in another thread. Tried it and it works wonderfully.

I did a Wavelab 7 Dirac timestretch from 80 to 95 BPM this week and preferred it over using MPEX poly complex in Nuendo 5.1. Less artefacts on high frequencies.

I'll tell them to play slower and to a click next time
I guess not playing to a click is real music being played more by real musicians? or is playing to a click being less of a musician?
or is playing the correct tempo being a good musician? .....lol j/k

thx I will look into samplitude

I always recommend Reaper (pc and mac). You can fry it for free and the license is very cheap. I've gotten better results on stereo mixes from reaper than my other DAW's which include:logic 9 using built in flex or the Radius plug or Pro Tools/elastic audio. I've used x-form and serrato pitch n time in protools as well and I think Reaper does an equally impressive job. Also, no rendering time. Just change the rate and hear the results. Then, render your mix in faster than real time. Great daw btw.

So I thought that you were one of the guys creating content from old content and on answer to your question, I guess a click is okay (though I generally wouldn't use one) but if the guys play it wrong, we play it again. It is much faster to replay the song (what, three to five minutes?) than to spend hours pissing around with it.
