Can't use VST?

So i just found out Logic can't use VST pluggins (which made me feel really stupid because all the freeware ones i just downloaded [like 15 of them] were in VST).

What do the pluggin types stand for if you know, and what ones will work in logic?

You need AU for audio units in Logic.

Goggle "VST wrapper for Logic" - there are free ones. This is a plugin that converts VST to AU, so you can use most VSTs.

It's a pain - Logic used to host VST before Apple bought them out.

There are masses of options available on sites like KVR, but it can take a while to wade through and find the good ones. If you're after a few quick recommendations, maybe have a look at my Freeware Top Ten. For more detailed per-effect-type recommendations, I've got a Links sections for each chapter of my free on-line mixing resources -- here are the compressor suggestions, for example. Hope those help.
