USB 2.0 Interfaces: bus powered, or external power???

Some USB 2.0 interfaces are bus powered, and some have external power sources. Outside of mobility for remote/mobile work - which is not my thing - are there any advantages or disadvanges of either approach?

Thank you.

I highly recommend a mains-powered interface.

If I'm not mistaken it's a bandwidth issue, and ive heard of bus powered interfaces cutting out when hit by a loud enough transient

Well, THAT seems like a compelling reason. Thanks
