USB2 soundcard with special needs (8ch output)

Hello all,

I am new to the but I am keep reading it since 2007!

I know there are many similar topics around but I haven't foudn the solution to my problem.

I currently have the following system:
Laptop with Win XP SP3
Saffire LE
Ableton Lve (legit)
Max for Live

I am currently using an express port to firewire adapter for the Saffire LE.
So far I have only had some issues with midi not appearing in Ableton several times or some crashes when I pushed midi communication hardly through max for live.

Anyway I am in need of buying a new sound card for the my home production studio and I thought of an USB2 card as it seems to me that it is way more stable in windows than firewire.

My needs are:

8 channel output (line)
at least 2 mic input (4 better)
very stable drivers and low latency

the use is for music production and ambisonic 3D reproduction (first order for the moment as we have only 8 channels).

My budget is max £500.

I had a look at:

MOTU ULtralite mkIII Hybrid (but i have read on various threads that the driver for usb are terrible)

that seems to be the only 8 output card with USB around.

If not I was thinking about Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 but it is again Firewire.

What do you suggest? I am open to new brands as well.

THank you very much

FW is perfectly stable in windows , its likely to be the way your notebook uses express card .

bad news - it might have the same problems with usb

rne fireface uc is nearish your budget and is probably the most stable card you will get . but no guarantees!

Thank you tvsky.

Actually the fireface is about £750 here in UK (at least in DV247).

Regarding firewire stability, so you are saying it should be my laptop.
I will investigate.

Thanks
