Intel SSD 320 or 510 for sample drive?

Hi everyone,

since I'm planning to set up a new PC as a DAW I really do want to
integrate an SSD for my sample-libraries.

My current DAW already uses an X25 Postville for OS & applications
and it is definately the best computer-investment I have made in the
last couple of years...

I'm uncertain though whether the 320 or the 510 series would be
the better choice for a drive containing sample-libraries:

320: High I/O throughput, but less linear transfer-speed
510: Lower I/O throughput, but higher linear transfer-speed

I guess that for loading samples into RAM (non-disk-streaming
samplers), the 510 is the better choice, but for disk-streaming
samplers the 320 will probably be better since it allow for much
higher random read performance when lots of notes are streamed
at the same time...

Has anyone done a comparison of those drives in a real-live
scenario?

Best regards,
Tobias

What about the Crucial M4 with the FW0009 firmware? Seems to have addressed the 'weird' cases of drive lockup and the performance is good for both random iops and sequential transfers...and it's not Sandforce based.

The Cruical M4 seems to be right in the middle between the Intel 320 & 510
in terms of random read performance. But for sequential read it is just a
little better than the 320 and much less good than the 510...

That was my point, it stands as a middle ground as far as performance goes and in terms of price. And with FW0009 it seems to be better: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4712/t...-with-fw0009/2
