Pro tools 003 vs Audiophile 2496

I am using an audiophile 2496 sound card from M audio. My friend is forcing me to buy a pro tools 003. He says that a sound bounced from pro tools 003 will be much punchier and have better quality. Personally I don believe this because wats happening is basically digital conversion and there is not going to be any loss anywhere. But I do understand that when you use an external audio input, it does make a difference. But is there a remote possibility of my friend being right? Can some one post audio examples from a low end and high end audio interfaces.

Thanks a lot
