Should I be Getting Better Performance?

I've been very content with my new Lenovo Thinkpad Edge (Pre-sandy bridge, with an i3-380m and 4gb ram), until I recently started doing some more intense work. Reading around, it sounded like ANY modern laptop would easily run 20+ vst's. However, I'm not feeling that.

In a recent project, consisting of:
7 instances of Kontakt, with orchestral patches
2 instances of pianoteq 2.3
2 instances of waves api-560 stereo
1 instance of IR-1 full
1 instance of H-delay stereo

This brings my laptop to its knees. I had to reduce my buffer to 1024 samples to even work on it. CPU hovers around 80% and there is alot of clicking. This issue is not limited to projects with kontakt, with about 5 instances of DCAM strobe/cypher causing the same issue.

I'm running live 8.2.2, with an echo Audiofire 4, at 48khz. Latest drivers, firmware, all windows updates applied.

I have no DPC issues at all, I've tuned it according to every guide I can find.

Am I expecting more than I should get? Or is there something wrong here?

I hate to open a thread specific for me, but I am clutching at straws, here.

Any help is much appreciated.

I suppose that's true, but through various benchmarks the 390 (not 380) has compared to the i5-520m.

I'm guessing I'm expecting too much, then. But this little from a 390m?
