mac keyboard and coke fight

While here in the US I rented a G4 / 800 at capitol computers in Augusta ME for a week .... (85$ .... damn cheap....)

Guess vacation realy isn't vacation ....... brought an 80 gig firewire drive and doing some off line stuff on it.

Anyhow..... last night ..... spilled a glass of coke on the keyboard ..... I know I know ..... it just happened ok .... I'll buy a new one .....

in the meantime just wondering ..... I immediatly washed it off with water ..... took off all the key caps and hand dryed it with a hair blower as good as possible ...... put everything back together ..... but the kayboard doesn't work anymore

Is this normal ..... heh heh

I guess it is ..... but maybe someone has had a similar experience and knows if it will / should work again once all the moist is out of there ????

The blowdryer seemed to work pretty good on a Neve & a coffee once. (text book, don't put your coffee there, 5 minutes go by, don't put your coffee there, 10 minutes go by, don't put your coffee there, Splash)

damn ..... mac keyboard is dead I'm afraid.

good thing a simple PC USB keyboard works to replace it for now.

I had the choice renting a titanium 800 in Belgium and bring it down here .... cost ... 200 $

G4/800 over here : 85$ .... new mac keyboard : 65 $ .... total of 150$ ..... still cheaper then that titanium.

Can't even start to think of what would / could have happened if I brought that titatium over here .....

A recent employee of ours on her first day did the same spilling a red cherry aid style drink on a mac keyboard. The 'sticky stuff' was embedded both between the keys (which can be pulled off) and on the circuit board (which can be removed via the back). We tried cleaning it and got as far as a non-working space bar key and random letter generator. For sale if anyone's interested in a newly formed joke keyboard.

I once spilled some water into the keyboard, it malfunctioned and then completely stopped worked for 2 days. I thought it was dead for sure even though I'd tried drying it the best I could.

3rd day it was fine, so sometimes just give a few days to evaporate completely.

Here for the gear

when i was buying an imac like five years ago, i didn't set it up in my room since i first needed to make some free-space there, but in our living room (only for the first two days). so when i was going to sleep i forgot that our dog sleeps in our living room.

the beautiful white imac was all yellow the next day..
