The 2 Tims Ompressors

Just letting everyone be reminded...

The Tim P and Tim C compressors are UNBELIEVABLY GOOD !!

I'm using Tim C's 660 and Flucti-Mu compressors on vocals and Piano and I cannot tell you how amazing AND unique each one shines...Equally as well is Tim P's Vari-Level... Does to a vocal what nothing else can...

They are great. Last project: Flucti-Mew, Rayphlex, Vari-Level.... EQ: Dual Tech, Gyrator... Tape/sat: 37J (channel 2's godly)... Good number of other programs and acquas too.

We're a little spoiled.

I felt the same with Cupwise's Flucti-Mew.
A Vari Mu doesnt react like a VCA.
The fastest attack time on a Vari Mu is 25ms.
We can agree that the attack time spec doesnt reflect the real behavior of a compressor but given the fact that the actual compression is achieved in the valves, you cannot expect it to be agressive on your transient or should I say early body.
In the worst case, that should saturate your signal if used properly.
You should not use it to flatten out the dynamics of your mix or sub group but to glue the mix together....in a very different way that a discrete VCA would do.
I think a VCA kind of sqwash your tracks in a way.
A Vari Mu would more likely place them together in a 3D space where no one step on anyone toes.
A Vari Mu is not to be used aggressively. You should see it as a Surfer that jump from wave to wave smoothly.
Be gentle with a Vari-Mu, it'll give you back all you give him plus investment haha.
If you have some pumping effect with Flucti-Mew, you should see that your input level never go past -18db peak and that your treshold scratch 2 to 4 db off your peak at max.
If again you're having issues, you should contact Tim C so he told you what to look for in the guru mode of N4 maybe....I dont know, maybe you fawked some shet up there.
There's definitely no pumping effect on my side.

Revisiting Tim P's El Enhancer & Silk EQ after a few years. Yesterday I spent the day working on old ideas for tunes rendering VI's to audio tracks. Only a kit submix the rest of the audio tracks using faders up, no plugins with either Silk or El H set up on the 2 bus followed by his 37J. The difference when disabled is clearly noticeable. An easy way to set up your projects or templates before mixing. Inexpensive too for the quality.

BTW DDMF is having his yearly sale, get the Metaplugin to use on the 37J (or anything else) at 1/2 off.

Find myself using C660 (Fairchild - just for the preamp, it's amazing) and LunchPail (great on drum bus) the most.

I love the cassette decks. Sooper Time Tube has some unique options for stereo width enhancement, like nothing else. Cassette Reverbs also very nice flavours.

@Bose

Which one you use ?

The original or the Select ones ?

What about the Sa710 with pseudo stereo widener ?

Although the MFC console is a standout on its own ... there are situations where the big, open, relaxed sound doesn't provide the right amount of energy, punch, focus, attitude that something like the SSL can do.
I am using the MFC for sometime now. While i love the sound that i get with it, i also want the driven SSL sound for pop and rock mixes. Should i go for the 9KC or the 4KC? Heard the 9KC is almost as clean as the DAW.

The select ones are small modifications made to the samples to produce different effects. Finding the right one is satisfying!

The Pseudo Stereo thing adds a certain tone to the sound, pleasant, and is able to produce incredibly mono compatible stereo width out of mono signals. And stereo of course, even at 100%. Used with various stereo balancing tools like the Goodhertz Mid Side and Pan Pot it's an amazing tool, though absolutely fantastic as it is!

Check out the tilt filters too

I can only tell you what I'm working with, which mainly focuses on Mastering.

The AlexB 9KC has moved to one of the top 3 console libraries I call on.

The 9KC brings a different sonic than, say, the MFC. These two models might
be considered the pinnacle statement from each respective product.

I don't use the console for any additional 'driven' sound. I've plenty of other
processors that bring what I'm looking for.

The 9KC may be called 'clean' ... It's very distinctive. Character, drive, punch,
and a unique way to define a sound.

I did A/B the 4k to the 9k in a project [both latest releases] ... the 9k just
work. I have other musical styles that I want to audition the 9k on ... but one
of the Nebula beauties ... I've a full selection of consoles to choose from [all
the AlexB ones for sure]. So I can get picky

In fact ... there are times I've routed to several consoles for one project.

That said ... the 4k is still quality. I don't know if it can be driven harder or not.
[now I'm gonna have to try that compare at some point].

Be sure to listen to the audio examples AlexB has for each product. I would
download them, and load up into your studio DAW and monitor/compare.

It's such a personal decision, I try hard NOT saying, 'get this or that one'.
Honestly, a great record can be made on any of them. The MFC and the 9KC
are 2 easy choices. Combined with their EQ and dynamics libraries is so nice.

I've heard this too.
I'm currently trying to decide which of AlexBs SSL mix EQs to buy for adding some edge and contrast to more pillowy Neve tracked sounds...
