For some reason now it’s working but using your older version. Shrugs. It’s not killing my cpu either. It’s some audio mystical thing going on but it sounds great and the compressor reaction is working great also.

Man.... great time to make some awesome tunes.

Yeah, I was totally just using hyperbole/sarcasm and also fishing for someone to mention the benefits. A lot of the time you see "use a 1.5:1 or 2:1 ratio and get the meter barely moving," and I was just poking fun at that. I really don't subscribe to such mixing "rules" and I'm not surprised in the slightest that more aggressive 2bus compression would sound good. I tried 4:1 ratio, 30 ms attack and quickest release today with Tim's L-Bus and loved it. The glue is just there.

Anyone using ELC24 a lot? I like the thought of those Marinair transformers with passive circuitry. But fixed high and low shelves? I'd probably use this most on the 2 bus, but I usually go more towards 60 Hz and 15K if I'm touching frequencies. But maybe this could work. How are the curves?

I've not used Sand but that I've found L Bus to be excellent and open with the Auto release gelling the mix very musically. I've only used it withe pre engaged and the L+R presets. Be great to hear a comparison with the pre's engaged and an L+R version from L Bus

Sand is clearly brighter. That's what I remembered too.

Another thing, the Auto-release on Sand may be it's weak point. I think that's what some beta-testers and people who likes Sand have said.

Said that, I preferred the tone and the action of L-Bus in this video. It has a less hyped color, and the compression seems to give more glue, and sit things better in the mix.

That's one thing I've been noticing with L-Bus, btw. It is powerful in a good and in a bad way. Although I was having good results in a previous mix doing 4:1 and 4db of GR, I've tried on another mix and couldn't pass for more than 1-2 of GR max, before it started carving the mix and grabbing too much.

I have used a few times, but never "learned" the hardware. But I have the impression that the same thing applies to the real deal, and why some people fear this comp.

Pretty good, but I don't use it often because it's not all that colorful.

Its a siemens 295b

I use mostly the high shelf part to boost 3 or 6db depending.

Sometime I recess with the low shelf -3db and everything become super tight.

It sounds like......you've reached paradise.

No but for real.... I dont know men, it just open everything up so smoothly !!!

Oh and two other one I always use:

cupwise - Flucti Mew ( Manley Vari-mu )
+
AlexB - Neumann SP79

That's another instant magic library.

It just bring so much depth and width....perfectly placed.

Its really a no brainer console + comp

that goes on the 2buss

Talking about Manley Vari-Mu,

I hope Magenta gets updated with the Vari-Mu.

Magenta is already an incredibly smooth EQ...I'm extremely happy to have bought this one.

IMHO Silk sounds fantastic, is from the beautiful sounding Siemens W295b EQ with the top end that is one of my favorite in all of pro audio.

Silk N4 skins are in beta too, should be released soon.

Ahhh . . . I can't wait to get my hands on that AlexB SP79. Was going to buy it this week and then my hot water tank blew up! :P

I've been using Surge for top boosts ... but perhaps I will have to open my wallet for TimP once more.

While I'm posting, I might as well mention that I've been using N4 pres of my choice into N4 tape into MFC Line In for each track in a project. I recently discovered that the MFC Line In in combo with a different mic pre is just magic for me.

Yeh I'm also curious as to how the Silk high shelf compares/differs to Surge's...

A lot of love for Silk. Time for another TimP purchase

How does that high shelf compare to the Maag air band? Not comparable?

Time to throw in more TimP love and re-enter the Gyrator EQ in the game. If you haven't boosted 2.8kHz with that you haven't lived.

Maag Air to Silk are very different in purpose, Maag Air is up around 40Khz and opens things up while the Silk top end is very smooth sounding but is around 16Khz.

Thanks. I have the algo PA Maag EQ, I'll give CDSM a pop.

I'll buy Silk as soon as the N4 skin is released.

Is AlexB's N73 EQ the best Neve 1073 (preamp/eq) out there?

@Will The Weirdo - sorry to tag, but you likely know the answer
