have you tried to set it up in Nyrv Agent ?

i really had trouble with the Alex b api 550 because the freq switching is so uneven between shifts

How smooth are those when sweeping as opposed to something like The Drop?

It's been a while, but I thought I remembered the NEB filters not really sweeping smoothly when automated.

I wouldn't even bother to compare, The Drop wins hands down. With The Drop you already have one of the best if not the best filters ITB.

hello good folks

do any of you have the Alex B MFD and 4K CHD

are they any good, and compress well ? and who do you prefer of these two ?

i have the MFC and MFQ, the missing link is the ch dynamics
i haven't heard much talk about these channel dynamics so any input would be great

thanks for answers in advance

I have both, and love the MFD. The way it helps to sit the instrument in the track is excellent. I find it more versatile than the 4k. I honestly could mix an entire record with just that. I like different flavors so I won't and will keep using Ultramarine, 2412 and Acquamarine, but you know what I mean. Just like I could make an entire record with just the MFeq as an eq.

Anyway, why do you ask ? You know you'll end up buying both.

I use both. 4k does what it's suppose to do, but sounds better than all other emulations. And the MFD is just warm and phat sounding ... I hardly compress though just like the coloration.

MFD is a nice glue/tone compression. Not as useful when you need to do heavy shaping or control compared to TimP comps or especially the new Acquas. Comparing the demos I didn't go for the 4K CHD, but instead grabbed the g.comp.

i love the G comp for gluing my tracks together on the 2nd bus(master)
so far its my favorite, i always used g comps in algo world but Alex G comp glues much better to me, it also adds nice punch i newer experienced in the algos
when i do acoustic music instead of rock the flucti mew and C660 gets used more on master
i have heard so much great about the fenix red for master that im ready to buy that one too very soon

i do think MFD could be very useful though and add in the more heavy duty comps when i need it
i could even add in the ua 88rs mk2 comp before the MFD for more compression if needed,
i do love the neve sound so i velcome the coloring from the MFD,
the Neev 14 console is still one my favorites for buses and single tracks so neve sound all the way, well almost hehe
i also like SSL and API consoles on master
i like the MFC the most for acoustic music on master

but i agree
more heavy duty tone shaping comps : Tim P and Acqua core8 comps all the way

looking forward to Tim P`s Sta level

for those who missed it Acustica has a free core8 comp called TAN
i really like this comp and this one will stay in my toolbox, just log in an grab it,
its in you're dashboard already, ready to be downloaded,
get a little taste of that ShMod

so far i have tested it on stereo piano and vocal, liked it on both,
on the vocal i also used opto 3a with the la 2a preset, it was a great combo
for this vocal

Cheers

AlexB MFC and MFQ are now core of my mixing setups. I will not mix without them since now, only if its sound will be surpassed by another plugin. For now this emulations are untouchable IMHO.

MFQ is really great, i could use this one any style of music
but i also like the acqua amethyst(amek 2500eq, amek 9098 comp)

the console choices depends on the music style for me
i dont like MFC for rock but love it for acoustic music

but the styles i do is acoustic, country, folk rock, and classic rock for the most part
so im not saying MFC works only for acoustic music though, that wold be wrong hehe
but for me it doesn't sound the way i want for rock

i think i like the classic neve console and the ssl for classic rock the most because
its a sound i recognize and love for that style
that combo have been used a long time amongst many great rock bands
and is still used today
not without a reason i bet

but there are nebula users that like the MFC for rock

so it all comes down to personal taste

I'm glad you found something you like the MFC on.

I'll add my love for MFC and MFQ, both are valuable tools for me, they are the first console and console EQ I reach for when mixing.

yeah i was doing rock when i didn't like MFC hehe
but as soon as i started with acoustic recordings with piano and acoustic guitars
it was the right console to use for me
it was where i expected the MFC to shine for me and i was right

did you see the pick of the new agent theme for 1.5
in using agent with nebula thread ?

i love those vintage neveish looking knobs,
and i was happy to see they added switches for bypass, that was exactly what i wanted

MFC just has a great open but smooth sound, I feel blessed to have that tool for digital work.

Yeah I saw the pic, but honestly I just have not had time for much investigating.

It is amazing how these various 'Consoles' interact with musical styles.

Although we could likely mix through any of them [compared to flat/sterile digital] ... picking a console 'match' sets the sonic stage. [and to that ... I have them all ... eq, dynamics included].

I used many of these hardware consoles back when I worked full-time tracking/mixing. Flying to various studios was common-place. Who needs Frequent-Flyer-Miles now ... the cost of these complete NEBULA libraries wouldn't touch a single channel strip, let alone, the full installation.

yes i agree, lets say Nebula only had MFC, then i would use it on absolutely everything instead of that flat boring horrible digitalness lol

agree again
its amazing how different consoles can work with different material
and mixing them up a little is even more exiting, that is pure luxury

so im starting to have a slight addiction for getting more consoles hehe

not the worst addiction to have

One of the things I love about the 4K is it's sampled in stereo, even mic and line inputs so I can take advantage of that magic that happens when you organize things in a desk before mixing. I use inputs as is on stereo tracks and on mono tracks I just switch to "mono-l" on the kernel page to just use the left. I enjoy that a lot!

I don't see where that information is that states what the AlexB console configurations are [stereo/mono].

I would like to see documented of this.

We know that the hardware Master BUS are stereo ... AlexB has full access to the console internals [as he is known for his hardware restoration and modifications].

The ONLY console I see mention stereo, is the German Mastering Console, which has it in the PRESET naming.

I'm just wanting to have clear, accurate information posted.

Thanks for any specifics.
