For me, in no particular order,
Fabfilter
Psp
Waves (the old stuffs still great)
Sknote
2caudio (awesome reverbs)
DC plugins (just demo them you might be surprised)
Slate digital
And of course Cytomic for "The Glue"

Brand-by-brand comparisons are imprecise at best. They're all "hit-or-miss" to one degree or another.

That said, I can't help but notice you left out PSP.

And Sony Oxford.

What about Voxengo?

And of course, Kjaerhaus.

So many, so little time.

Kjaerhaus were ok for the time.
The free plugins can still be downloaded but future releases or updates are not going to happen for they are no longer in business. AFAIK.

Good to know, unfortunate that it happened. I've always liked their Golden plugs, even if they never get me all the way there.

Here for the gear

Excellent Plugins

Maybe look into "Nomad Factory" and "Studiotoolz" (formally known as "Minimal System Group"). I have purchased a few plugins from both of these companies, and I'm very impressed with how well they perform.

There are so many good ones around these days, even the smaller companies.

Personally I have invested in Waves, Plugin Alliance, IK Multimedia, iZotope, Native Instruments... but then there are companies like Sonnox, Flux, Slate, Nomad Factory, Zynaptic... it’s endless.

I'm appreciating companies that give free updates like Slate for VCC and Kush for Omega. I'm also appreciating companies that give free and loyalty discounts like bx SKNote and Soundtoys. Klanghelm Airwindows and Hornet have great low cost products. The Black Rooster elevate and Overloud freebies will turn into purchases since impressive intros! Good times.....

In my opinion, Acustica Audio is changing the ITB concept. Their plugins are sounding real, like the hardware. Just check the last Pink2 or Azure and you will see what I'm referring.

AudioThing. Great sounding unique plugins with interfaces you love to look at. Fog Convolver, Type A, Outer Space and Valve Exciter all get major use.
As a company they seem totally on the ball.

As far as "companies" check out Black Rooster. Excellent sounding plugins, very affordable, easy authorization process.
