converting patches?

Is there a way to put the patches from. A korg oaysis yamaha motif and or roland fantom and put them in kore 2 for use with cubase 5? It would be eaiser than lugging around my partners keyboards when I work at home

Thank you

No the parts are generated by the keyboard. You'd need to sample them.

That would also be a lot of sampling and you would lose the tweakability of your sounds. If any of the source sounds are multis, then they play different notes depending on how many keys you are playing, in what octave, and they may also have arpeggiated portions. You would lose all that, and you would be locked into the sampled tempo with the arpeggios.

But if all of the samples are in kontakt format and I use them with my kore 2 I would have the ability to tweak the sounds still.

Yes, but you would not have the ability to modify the individual elements or arpeggio of a multi-layered or complex, arpeggiated patch.

For simple one-shot samples, such as drum kits or piano sounds, you could do it. Still, some patches have different samples for each velocity layer, as in, a different sample is played depending on how hard you hit the note. You would have to figure out how many layers there are, and try to accurately re-sample each layer. Or, you can do what many synth library producers do, and just trigger each sound at maximum velocity, but you lose multilayer expression in that process.

For looped samples, such as strings, you would also have to set the loop points for each note, which you would have to painstakingly find in each sample.

If the sounds are on the synth's ROM then no you can't - unless you sample your synths. That would be like taking 'snapshot's' of different keys and attempting to build a kontakt patch out of that. It's doable in a sense but it won't be as quality as the synths themselves and you'll not be able to edit certain paramaters after that. THis is the best way to 'capture' effect's besides directly recording the synth.

There is certain programs to do this - EMU X3, Extreme Sample Translator to name a couple.

Last option is if the patches are on RAM (ie usb stick drive or flash card) then you will be able to translate (chickensys reads fantom, motif and korg I believe) directly into kontakt. With this method you'll be able to preserve envelopes, key mapping, and filters, but you will still lose many synthesis options.

I see, thanks guys

Is there somewhere I can buy the sounds already keymapped and velocity sensitive? for my kore 2? We live 2 hours from the studio and its a pain in the ass to transport the keyboards when we need to work at home, so I'm just looking for an easier way to complete projects faster

Anyhelp would be apreciated

Just do a search on eBay for Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Oasys, Motif, or Fantom samples. However, I am not sure if these packages are endorsed by the original manufacturers.

They have been selling these for years, and nobody has ever shut them down, so I do not know.
