mac pro memory speed - 667 or 1066 difference?

Just curious , I was thinking of getting an used mac pro from 2007.. is the difference between ddr2 667 and ddr3 1066 significant?

I'm using a mac mini right now that has 1066 ddr3 speed ram..I'd hate to see a decline in speed..

Does more slower memory out perform less/faster memory?
