Setting Up External Drives

I record in logic on an iMac and just bought two external hard drives from OWC (Mercury Elite-AL Pro). One 1TB and one 500GB. I used carbon copy to make a bootable drive on the 1TB external. I'm planning to put all audio projects, plug ins, etc. on the 500GB drive, and leave Logic on the internal hard drive. Then back up the audio files from the 500GB drive to the 1TB drive. Both externals are connected by firewire.

Does this sound like a good way to run things? I am far from a computer geek, so any suggestions on how to do this properly would be greatly appreciated.
