HDMI LED monitor flakeyness

I recently bought 2 27" ACER LCD monitors. They're connected to my 2008 mac pro with hdmi cables. The cables themselves are attached via hdmi to dvi adapters. Well, one is an adapter setup, the other is built into the cable (due to cable length availability). Anyway, they're both kind of flakey in the sense that they seem to lose connection with the computer and go blank sporadically. It's an easy fix as all I do is cycle the input select button on the monitor around and back to hdmi. I've reseated the cables/adapters but that doesn't seem to fix it. I can't make it do this by wiggling anything either. I'm guessing that there's some "digital weirdness" going on with the hdmi cable and the dvi. Or, maybe my mac just doesn't like this brand of monitor. Any ideas?
