Finally, two "must have" features that have blown my mind for not existing in any interface. (that I know of)

1 - mono switch (and therefore I assume that...)

2 - Passive volume knob.

Well done Avid!

(though I am not spending even 0.01c with you ever again, you big brotherish castrating evil coorporate devils, you!
I bet all your employees are forced to work with an iLok up their...usb ports, and you discount productivity ADC off their
salary, and even the coffee machine need HD Accel cards to operate)

mono switch is already on all their interfaces.

what is a major ommision for me is the "mix" knob especially when you're dealing with software with no direct monitoring (such as reaper)

My must have on the M box is to actually be able to use a high end front end at sample rates over 48k - meaning I need the ability to clock externally of the S/PDIF input at high sample rates which is a feature that all the previous m-box's have denied me.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This bodes well though, looks like Avid is taking their re-branding seriously and we'll hopefully see new products across the entire "Digidesign" line!

I was also generalizing, not specifying!

But I missed that one too, long time since I've seen an mbox in front of me. I am pretty darn sure
the "Pro" version doesn't.

PS: Did a quick search on google images, no mono switch on the "Pro" version... how very Digi of them

Anyways, I don't even know if the Mbox 2 has a digital or passive volume knob, anyone?

I hope this supports 192 KHZ! Every other Interface supports this.
I canΒ΄t edit my recordings outside the studio.

but I expect it will only do 96 KHZ which is sadly not enough for my needs.

WOW !!

Why not ? What are you recording, dolphins? bat sonar ? Seriously, I'm not trying to be a smartass or putting you down, but WOW, 96k not enough?

You should seriously look into 1bit DSD conversion altogether!

I dont think theres anything amazingly new to this.
I dont think any existing owners of MBoxes need this thing.....well, until AVID stops supporting the old ones, as they do.

I just dont see the point in this product as it doesnt bring anything new to the table.
Hopefully LE 9 is around the corner and will be a serious improvement.

No mix knob might mean low latency monitoring and ADC?
Anywho, does the introduction to this product mean that LE is here to stay?

I'm also not a fan of avid/protools stuff but what does it have to bring new to the table?

This is even more advanced then needed for the average home-studio owner. Maybe I'd add a second headphone out but probably they'll do that for its big brother.

Now, the important thing to wait is how the new PT LE will be...

Another leak ? They took the page down!!

Anyways, price tag of about 550 USD ... classic Digi overpricing philosophy, no matter what people try to argue with me (unless they shut me up including LE9 with mp3, ADC, track count, MPT, etc etc etc etc... )

Exactly... How exactly does this differ from the Mbox range now? One Dim Switch.

Hmm... Stinks a bit of the 192 and 96 updates from Avid. Same box, different shape. Reported improved sonics. Nothing ground breaking what so ever. At this particular entry level you need features.

I'm assuming you know that clocks don't make everything sound better. If your looking for higher Sample Rates I suppose they'll be pushing that for the new Avid 005 Rack.

Not a leak..., just another quick burst onto the scene to keep people talking. Have previous MBox's had the 'DIM' switch? Personally I'de find that pretty useful. I would also assume this means LE is here to stay... at least for now. I'de also ASSume that the $550 pricetag is retail.

If it has improved sonics, that is the main thing that really matters.

It also has a soft limiter on each channel according to the picture....

This has some good features on it, especially if the sonics really are that much better, however I don't believe it to be the game-changer folks were hoping for....certainly not enough for me to go back to the dark side of the force.

Same as the new Avid HD interfaces.

. Another company given the chance to innovate and another opportunity lost.

Googled 'Avid Mbox 3' and found a thread on the DUC...
it gives more information. Says 004 is out in January.

Also says the pre's on the Mbox 3 are the same as those on the 003....

Can I paste the link here, or is that against the rules?

I realize that, but I also realize that if I wanted to feed a digital signal to the S/Pdif input than I should be clocking to that input (or to a word clock coming from the same external source).
