New Mac

Hey all and al,

I'm thinking of buying a new Mac to enhance my retro PT Mix plus rig.
Rumour has it that new Mac's are OSX only, so any educated guesses as to when PT6 will hit the streets?
Jigsaw UK have just lobbed £200 off the G4 800 that might be cool with an external DVD read write and rewrite firewire box.
Maybe I should wait until round 2 for the G5..
Is anyone in a similar position? care to air your thoughts?

Cheers

My guess is that the new Macs will only SHIP with OSX, but may still boot in OS9.2.x if installed. I would wait for the announcement anyway. I bought a G4/933 for my B room a month ago - and might buy another Mac after new models are announced.

The rumours I've heard are that the new machines may be 2 processor G5's and that the round after that would be FOUR processor G5's !!!!

New Powermacs

Are due at this month so hang tight. These may be the last of the G4 procs. I expect G5's Q1 of next year.

Motorola now has a sheet which mentions 1167mhz Processors

http://e-www.motorola.com/collateral/PCN7637.htm

No one really knows what to expect but it's coming soon.

Posters,

Funny, I heard that we were gonna get quad processor G4's, & then maybe single, & dual processor G5's.

The new models are due to be announced this week, I've been told. But they will be OS9 compatible. (Dunno if they'll come with it??) Steve Jobs has personally reassured most of his 'main' OS9 (still) Developers of this.

I believe they will be 'speed bump' models this time. The 'new' OSX only models are pretty much ready, but have been held back for around (I've been told) 8 months to allow people like Emagic,Motu and Digi to all get there X compatible s/w nearer to completion.

HA! grggt

I am thinking exactly the same! I have been good spending wise, (that is if 16 i/o of Prism Dream ADA doesn't count AHEM!)

Cough!

ANYway......

My rig feels like it could do with a computer treat!

I am running on a G3 Beige!

But then I have to get new exp chassis / SCSI - nightmare!

I will just 'hang in there' till I go HD or SOMETHING

iDVD only supports DVDr if it's connected to the secondary internal IDE Bus (In otherwords where it's meant to be inside the box!)

Bang for the buck I think the NEW Dual 1 Gig is pretty good. Though the "Fastest" option is pretty nice too!

About Mix and OSX. I honestly don't know for certain. But I heard from a usually reliable source that they will be supported yes..... Just don't hold me to it

A Digi customer service drone said that it would be for sure.

This was after I had passed a brick reading a little article in "Sound On Sound" a usually reliable British magazine saying that Mix support would be stopping at PT 5, and wouldn't be supported under OSX.

I hope and I pray, otherwise the second that news is out the value of my rig is going to drop through the floor (again) and I'm going to cry that I still haven't got all the features that I was promised when I bought my system.

Thanks for the DVD info Diginerd.

So Mix-er's are looking pretty safe regarding PT6 OSX progression.
As Al has sworn it will be so..heh

The next hurdle will then be Mix OSX plug-in compatibilty.

Will they, won't they, and how long????....
