In Theory.......

Can I take a 5 to 1 usb card reader and install a firewire card and run a hardware program such as SSL Duende?

In other words I have a laptop with no express card slot or firewire input and I'm looking for a work around......

Why do you ask?

Do you have a Firewire audio interface?

There is a 5 to 1 card reader expander on the market that can be plugged into your usb input. This card reader also has room for an express card reader that I would like to put in a firewire card reader so I can then use a firewire unit.

My laptop PC has no firewire input and has no express card reader slot.....The Kid at the electronics store said it would probably work but I would not have the same bit rate transfer as what firewire is capable of which makes sense....

But since my USB is running my RME 400 usb interface no problem I hoping this work around would still work with the application of Duende????

hope that makes some sense ...sorry.....

i doubt your usb connection will recognize the firewire card
i think you'll have trouble installing firewire drivers
and i think you'll have trouble "finding or recognizing" any connected equipment
and maybe bandwith problems (as your rme 400 also uses usb)
