True Stereo M7 IR's

Over the past week I've created true stereo M7 IR's. I just got hit with a last minute mastering job that I need to complete ASAP & only have the M7 for a short amount of time before it goes back to Cambridge.
I have been very meticulous about this capture & I'm pleased with the results but I need to make sure I haven't missed any deconvolution errors.

I haven't found & don't foresee any issues but there isn't a better final QC team then you guys. So go at it..

————————————————————————————-
Like true stereo hardware, true stereo IRs process both the Left & Right channels independently for a more accurate & detailed emulation.

Goal = Capture True Stereo IR programs from the “legend in its own time” Bricasti Design M7 Stereo Reverb Processor.
228 impulse files capturing the Ambience, Chamber, Hall, Plate, Room, & Space Registers.

Independent IR's from both the Left & Right inputs. No post processing pseudo stereo expansion, phase shifting, or unrap has been used to give the illusion of a stereo image.

I/O = AES Digital @ 24bit 96k
IR Resolution = 24bit 96k

True Stereo compatible convolution reverb recommended. (Check end of post for a manual routing alternative.)
Recommended plug-ins : liquidsonics Reverberate, SIR2, Pristine Space

Download IR's from http://signaltonoize.com

For those without an all-in-one True Stereo compatible plug-in, you can manually route your channels via this method.

Unbelievable that you did it!
Thanks a lot for True Stereo, really appreciated here

Unfortunately I have right now no time to download but I will do soon and report later.
I can test with Pristine Space and Wizooverb 2.

Much much thanks

best regards

This is GREAT !

I'm going to knock up some presets for Waves IR so that if I can't test them, someone else will.

Nice,

Does altiverb support true stereo?

I've only ever used free impulses from the net, of which all are mono i assume.

How do stereo IR's differ?

Hi vieris,

first it sounds to me quite alive and really beautifull.

After some test I notice a light echo on all Hall Impulses.
Of course I have no clue how the Bricasti should sound like but this echo seems a little bit strange to me as it appears quite distinctly in the middle of the tail and then fades out quite quickly and not really smooth.
I tried with both Pristine Space and Wizooverb 2 and it is exactly the same result.
I can hear this quite clear because I test using a pre fader wet signal on my Daw.

This appears also on the Spaces, the Plates and on some long chamber impulses.

It's late here and I stop the test.
I can make more test tomorrow and if you want I can record some waves.

Best regards

I know what your talking about, i've heard the echos myself but it seems to be the way the M7 is. I don't think the echos sound wrong personally.
I just compared a few of the Hall IR's with the hardware, I'm not hearing anything dramatically different or any feedback/delay errors. I'm pretty sure what your hearing is how the M7 really is.

I just created 2 more hardware comparisons to listen for anything abnormal in the IR's. Listen to the tail of the AmsterdamHall It does sound a bit odd, but the IR's & Hardware are both equally odd.

Is there an easy way to load these in TL Space?
TL Space seems to recognize true stereo with multi mono files i.e.
Cathedral.1.L.wav
Cathedral.1.R.wav
Cathedral.2.L.wav
Cathedral.2.R.wav

Maybe there's a way to batch convert and rename these to be compatible with TL Space?

Thanks for these impulses and also for the previous ones you've done. The stereo image seems a bit off on the IR mp3's. It's like the hihat jumps out left side.

OP: Thank you very much.

Anybody: what AU convolution reverb accpets true stereo files? I believe Logic's Space Designer doesn't... is it true? Do you know of a workaround? Thanks.

I don't think so, there's a strange "pitch-slow-down" tail on the IR mp3 which are not present on the HW mp3, don't you agree?

With Space Designer in Logic, I'd try the following routing (I'm just downloading, thanks for that nice stuff already!):
- Set up a send to a bus (if you want, you can now even use post-pan sends, so pan positions will be reflected on busses and auxes).
- Assign that bus to no output.
- Set up two aux objects with the bus you just created as an input.
- Pan the auxes hard L/R.
- Insert one mono SD on each aux and load the appropriate IRs.

That should do the trick pretty well. Would be a lot better if SD was supporting true stereo files, though (or if one could use parallel inserts, a longstanding Logic wish of mine anyway).

Logic´s Space Designer does support true stereo impulse responses. You can find some answers on how to create appropriate presets here:

Thanks Sascha and DTA.

Just happened to find this, haven't tested it yet:

LAConvolver 0.3 software download - Mac OS X - VersionTracker

Seems to be the perfect barebones convo engine. Add predelay, pre/post EQ and mod to taste with your own fav gear... great philosophy.

The problem with LAConvolver being that there's no archieving functionality. So once you move your song files somewhere, you would have to manually find out where you loaded your IRs from and copy them manually, too.

I get that. But I reckon it would at least remember which IR you loaded in a specific instance and ask you where it's at?

Are you using TL Space with protools? If so you can start a 24/96k session & import the IR's. Protools converts all stereo interleaved files to mono. Then just make sure the file suffix is correct.
Cathedral.1.L.wav
Cathedral.1.R.wav
Cathedral.2.L.wav
Cathedral.2.R.wav

TL space seems to be the odd man out, I researched the most compatible format before taking this on. This is why other commercial IR creators avoid this.

Then again protools has great routing capabilities you could just create 2 TLS sends & route them manually. Just make sure the inputs are discrete mono.
