Best laptop stereo soundcard option?

Hi All,

I have a project at work to record high accuracy sound data from a business jet (for developing a flight simulator model). I've already got the mic and preamp sorted out (DPA 4003 + Millenia Media HV3C hi volt option), but I need a good stereo soundcard (needs to have good A/Ds) for a laptop (running Windows XP).

Firewire, USB2.0 or PCMCIA are all possible here....but I'm not really familiar with what's on the market for laptops. I need 24 bit resolution, but only need 44.1kHz sample rate. I don't really want a large package though (RME fireface is a little too big, for example).

What's the best option out there on the market for high quality stereo laptop recording? Price is not really a factor here (well, lets keep it under $2K).

Thanks,

Kris
