Plugins for bass compression

Well, it may sound weird, but I often find a place for the Camel Audio "camelphat" which has a compressor which just kind of magically put things in a very compressed, but juicy space - it also has a subharmonic generator ("magic eq") which is awesome for adding in low beef - I highly recommend this plug or its free counterpart "camelcrusher" which gives you the comp for free!!!

CamelCrusher - Distortion, Compressor, Filter - Free VST plugin & Audio Unit

CamelPhat- Drums & Guitar Multi Effect - VST plugin, Audio Unit

One of the best solutions is TC Electronic Tube-Tech CL 1B plugin for ProTools or TC Powercore. It's just amazing on low end.

I'm still waiting for someone to tackle it. UA?

Or maybe it's time URS does compression plugins in the style of their EQ's?
UA came out with it about a 2 months ago, the VCA VU. I prefer the LA3a. It actually adds weight to the bottom end of a Bass or Kick. Check it out.

When you record the bass record it just as present in the mid range as possible without adding to much low end , add the low freq later with eq . It rocks together with waves r-comp for example .
i record my fender jazz bass direct using 100% of the bridge pickup and 70-80 % of my neck pickup and its great sounding bass track for almost every music style ,adding 100hz for more power in LF.
Lifting 800 hz and 2 Kz can help alot .

Nice day
This is about exactly what I do with my Jazz bass. It works. The 3 frequencies you mentioned are also ideal for the J bass. I squish a little with the R comp, but I have been playing over 15 years, and I would imagine that helps also.

I also do this with a J-bass, but I boost at 400Hz instead of 100Hz. This gives a little more P-bass type of authority.

UAD's VCA VU!

I own both, the hardware version and the UAD soft version.

They did a good job, no doubt.

Wavearts Multiband comp can fix just about any bass track. Tight limiting on the high mids and crossovers at 134hz, 250, 500, 1.5 with a 3db/octave slope depending on the track. Follow it with a nice saturation plugin and you got warm, punchy, controlled bass.

I suppose this is the downside of the thread-recommendation-before-posting thingy. Although a little old news can sometimes be useful.
