What computer based program?

After the thread before about what people are recording to, it would be interesting to see what computer based program people are going too. Im guessing Pro Tools will come out on top, but still would be interesting to see what happens.

Sonar 4PE. Or, actually, Other, I guess. (No DP, either... but 2 Steinberg products... hmmm. heh )

It don't get much respect around here, but I've been using Sonar (Cakewalk Pro Audio before they changed the name) since I swtiched my project studio over from a 16 track ADAT rig and put together my first 8 in/8 out lightpipe interface DAW rig back in '96.

Though I've gotten used to seeing it dissed here, it's actually very well reviewed in the recording press. (It got a 4.5 out of 5 in Electronic Musician, the highest DAW rating I remember there in a long time.)

There are a couple things I'd change, a few things I'd add, like most everything else in life, but, by and large it's been a very stable, emminently usable, and, in many ways, quite powerful program.

But, you know, as always, YMMV.

PT gives a good flow when mixing audio;
the midi bit? Oh, I can't think about it
without pulling hair (there and everywhere)

Why mid. files don't show in workspace is a mystery to me..
It's a workspace, right???

That's crazy that Logic is so high considering it's only 3% of the computer market, right Henchman? I guess Apple isn't "********".

This applies for DP, too.

Main DAW:
Sonar 4PE

Cakewalk had something with Sonar 3 and Sonar 4 is a step up... versions before Sonar 3 were a bit weak.

I also Logic 6 on a Mac DAW but I kind of felt by Apple when 7 came out only a couple of moths after I bought that copy and there was no reasonable upgrade path (cost issue) Logic 7 is great and all I've used it, but since this is about what we use not what we wish for ... Never been much into the MOTU soft or hardware, I respect them, but they've always been like that sexy girl that just doesn't do anything for you inside when you look at her.

my 2 cents.

DIGI grip on the b***s of the recording world still going strong though.

I don’t see a penny of your 2 cents as your comments are purely ignorant.

Execpt if you add Cubase and Nuendo together (which both use the same engine and are from the same company), you would see that they are at first place with PT's.

What would the numbers be if PT's votes were split between HD and LE.

I just moved from an Aardvark Q10 (RIP) and SX2.0 to a Digi002r. The track count limitation doesnt bother me; in fact, I am looking forward to limiting myself so my mixes arent so dense.

Now if I can just get this damn 002r to work right I will be in business.

Except if you like to keep stuff in phase and in time, Logic on the PC won't give you ADC. So, it by definiton sucks becasue of this important feature.

logic has delay comp on the trax, and it's not too hard to get it happening on the busses... UAD, for instance, has a plug that does the delay offset... (another reason to stem mix w. logic...)

i'm not saying its a perfect program... in the 5 years since they stopped developing logic, has a perfect program been developed?

some of the hardest rocking trax i heard this last 2 years were made on Notater / Atari...

I don't have to bore myself during a mix with any plug-in delays anywhare.
And that's how it should be.
