The ultimate Daw for audio

So i need a machine that is going to be the answer to my dreams!!!!!!

I need power!!!!!!!!!!

I'm mostly doing projects at 44khz but I want to be able to run projects at 24 bit 96khz too.

So is a dual core opteron the way to go?

Anyone hear of anyone doing a quad system with success?

My big issue = I got a project with lots of project with 30 to 40 tracks
and there is no way I'm going to be able to add more drum tracks
via bfd and vdrums td-20 realtime performance. I would have to put
the latency down to at least 3 mill to make the drummer happy but they are really happy at 1.5 and even more happy at 0.72 ms latency.
Yes drummers can hear 3 mill latency with bfd we have done the test it is obvious!

Yes i know i could freeze or mixdown etc but I would like to have the power
to not have to freeze so i could keep my speed going.

That why im thinking dual core quad or something crazy like that!

ps I love to open bfd in ultra mode and put uad-1 and tc powercore effects
all over the place, on individual channels and get bfd sounding awesome.
By the time i got an amazing drum sound in the box the cpu meter
is through the roof because of 0.72 ms latency.

I would like to know if a new super machine is going to lower the cpu
down to like 20% in the same situation.

my current system

true silence 550 watt psu
matrox p-750

what apps are you using?
reason i ask is you shouldn't have any problem having 30-40 tracks and adding drums via bfd and vdrums td-20. i do mostly everything at 48k and i do what you wanna do an more at times and i have no issues at all with my xp3200 daw.

as for a quad.. yea i've heard of um.. we even have a server that has 8CPU's in it but its not gonna go anything for you with your apps...99.9% of your apps will only work with "UPTO" dual cpu settups

the system vital is worth the little asking price... that system is worth 3500 EASY.
if you want the BEST you can get (at the moment) you need to get Dual core opterons. i the 275 series cpu...but they with out a doubt aren't cheap. you'll be looking at a min of $3000 for the CPU'S THEMSELFS... but that is gonna be the best right now.. right behind are the 275, you have the new Xeons..

The K8 series of Chips (Athlon 64 - Opteron) from AMD are the BOMB for PC based audio. They are VERY powerful and the fact that the memory controller is on the CPU means that LAtency is GREATLY reduced.

If you're using a Host that supports SMP (Sonar or cubase/nuendo) Then one of the new dual core athlon 64X2 chips will be unstoppable. Even the slowest X2 chip is gonna be UN-BE-FARKING-LIEVBLE for audio. (Especially when they switch over to 64 bit in the next versions which both steiny and cakewalk are doing).

The Intel stuff is great too, but you should get better latency from the AMD chips everytime.
