RME MULTIFACE II/PCI question using ADAT in at 96khz

Hi,

I could not find this on the RME site (hidden somewhere?)... and also can't log into the RME forum (r)... I will ask here... Please help! :O

1.

MULTIFACE II can record 8 analog tracks (using jacks) at 96khz...
If I want to add 8 more, I can use the one ADAT port to add any unit (a fireface, or any card with adat that can go up to 96khz).

But ADAT is restricted to 48khz?! And I can only have 4 channels extra at 96khz... is this true? So if I want 16 channels I should not get the MULTIFACE? Or are there some units that I can patch into it, that will work with 8 tracks 96khz...?

Or will getting 2 MULTIFACE's work together?

-

2. Will 2 fireface 400's work together, chaining the firewire?

Using cubase 4 on a pc, xp.

thank you sooo much!

don't know about the multiface but you can chain up to three firefaces together using firewire.

the driver also supports 3 cards - so you could connect 3 multifaces... One of them has to be the master sync. You can sync them up by using the adat or spdif I think.

On ANY device you will experience the following:

Lightpipe at 44.1/48 = 8 channels
Lightpipe at 88.2/96K = 4 channels
Lightpipe at 176.4/192K = 2 channels

To get 16 channels at 96 would recommend the following:

1 Fireface 800
2 Fireface 400's
2 Multiface II's

In this order.

Hope this helps!

No... they do not have a unified driver between the firewire and PCI devices.

9652 $699 24 @ 48 or 12 @ 96and
9632 $499 16/8 is far cheaper

FF 800 is now $1699 (can be found for less)
Multiface with PCIe is $1199

Fireface 800 has two ADAT in and out so you can do bit splitting or whatever they call it. SMUX? So each adat connector does 4 channels of 96k.
