Just seen it on apple's website. So how good do you guys think this will be? How much of an improvement? And how will it compare with Pro Tools interface?

Looks like amazing value for new users. ...But theres only a few new/updated plugins (Compresser, Delay designer, Multiband) a few utility programs (Soundtrack/Mainstage) and the updated Live/Garageband style interface to attract existing Logic 7 users? Or am I missing something? I guess there's nothing wrong with the rest of it on the whole already.

TDM and RTAS.... Ahem, did you hear me? I said RTAS!

Edit: Ah, hang on. I could be wrong
Edit: No, it seems I could be right, but it's not on the spec so I'll have to wait till it arrives

Cool.

I'm pleased to see they kept DAE support. (Actually, I am playing it cool here, I am actually pretty elated).
Mainstage looks excellent.
Soundtrack 2 being bundled is cool.
Looks like arrange has sample accurate display now.
Snap to transient- FINALLY.
Take Management- Finally.
Quick Comp- Interesting.

All looking pretty good- $199 isn't too bad all things considered.

Integration with Final Cut?

Are we going to get good integration with Final Cut Pro?

This is what really interests me? What kind of video capabilities are there?

This really blows me away, I thought for sure this was done for since it has been properly supported for over a year. Honestly at this price, there is almost no reason for any studio not to have a copy of this.

Anybody else notice there is no little "Logic only plugins" disclaimer when they talk about Logic Nodes and distributed audio? Is there now support for 3rd party plugs?

Oh yeah, and you can now use your apple remote to navigate and punch in while tracking.

Did you see the Logic Express specs now? It looks like even that is a step up from Logic Pro 7 in many respects

Yup.
I've been editing and mixing in PT for a couple of years now- but doing all the arrangement/writing in Logic (where I am more comfortable).
IF take management/groups/tab to transient works properly then I can stop having to bounce everything to export to PT and just stay in Logic.

Well, it may or may not be a Pro Tolls killer but, at that price, it's definitely a Cubase/Performer killer.

Just saw this:

"Portable preferences
Save your key commands, channel strip settings and plug-in settings to your .Mac account for easy backup, sharing, and portability."

THIS is clever.
I use .mac for this already- I upload all my data to it manually.
Automatic syncing will make it much more pleasurable.

Thumbs down

This is Logic 8? Is that a joke? Apple should call it Garage Band Pro.
Last year I switched from Logic Pro 7 to Nuendo. Now I'm definetly sure I took the right decision. I really tried to love Logic but I always found it the most unfriedly software I've ever used.
Sorry but Logic 8 doesn't seems to be an evolution of the previous version, I'm really disappointed.
